Microbiology (ages 5-8)

Put on your lab coat and get ready to learn all about microorganisms and how scientists study them! Students will practice lab techniques as they learn to use scientific equipment to set up experiments and activities. We will learn about sample & data collection, aseptic techniques, media preparation & inoculation, how to work with microscopes, and much more!

Tide Pools
July 24 - 27, 2023

Ages 5-8
Come join us as we learn about tide pools of the Pacific Northwest! During this camp we will learn about tide pool residents and their unique ecological relationships with each other and their environment. We will explore topics like tide pool diversity, ecology, and conservation with lab experiments, art projects, and games. Participants will go home with resources for finding and safely visiting tide pools in Washington.

Nocturnal Animals
July 31 - August 3, 2023

Ages 6-12
Nocturnal animals rely on an amazing set of traits, like heightened senses and unique behavioral strategies, to thrive during the dark of night. During this camp we will explore nocturnal animal behavior, anatomy & physiology, and conservation topics across several animal groups with lab experiments, art projects, games, and design challenges.

Feathers, Fur, & Scales
August 7-10, 2023

Ages 6-12
In this Comparative Anatomy course, we will learn about the unique traits of birds, mammals, and reptiles. Students will design and build animal legs to learn about locomotion, create digestive tracts as we correlate anatomy and diet, paint as we compare eye morphology, and so much more! We will work with real skulls, feathers, furs, and reptile skin sheds as we examine anatomical features. New art techniques will be introduced each day as we create projects to help solidify and expand upon scientific concepts.

Microbiology (ages 9-13)

Ages 9-13
Put on your lab coat and get ready to learn all about microorganisms and how scientists study them! Students will practice lab techniques as they learn to use scientific equipment to set up experiments and activities. We will learn about sample & data collection, aseptic techniques, media preparation & inoculation, slide preparation & staining, microscope use, and much more! Students will have the opportunity to work with a centrifuge, serological & micro pipettes, tube vortex, vacuum filtration system, autoclave, stir plate, and many types of labware and tools.
